Community

The Community Program includes a wide range of programs to identify topics of interest, fill content gaps, address the gender gap and improve content quality. This program is divided into four subprograms: Editing Challenges, Community Support, Expeditions, and Photo Contests.

  • Editing Challenges

Community members are encouraged to actively contribute to Wikimedia projects by focusing on specific topics and/or areas. These challenges can be related events where participants are invited to edit and improve Wikipedia articles.

The main projects contained in this sub-programme include:

    • editing days,
    • editing weekends,
    • editing contests,
    • CEE Spring 2024,
    • editing weeks,
    • #1Lib1Ref, Edit-a-thons,
    • Articles without illustration, etc.

  • Community support  includes activities such as mentoring newcomers, organizing meetups, and facilitating online forums where community members can interact, share experiences, and seek help.

The main projects contained in this sub-programme include:

    • Photohunts,
    • WikiSketch
    • WikiTours;

  • Expeditions – involve community-led projects to research and document specific topics, regions or topics of interest. Participants can go on research trips or virtual expeditions to gather information and media related to their chosen topics. These expeditions can result in the creation of new articles, the enhancement of existing content, and the addition of multimedia files to Wikimedia Commons, enriching the available resources for future readers and contributors.

The main projects contained in this sub-programme include:

    • Wiki-Expeditions,
    • Geo-expeditions,
    • Archaeo-expeditions,
    • Bicycle expeditions,
    • Photo contests.

  • Photo Contests

This programme encourages community members to capture and contribute high-quality photos to Wikimedia. These competitions can focus on specific themes, events or locations, encouraging photographers to document different subjects and aspects of the world. Photos uploaded through these contests not only enrich Wikipedia articles, but also contribute to the wider pool of freely licensed media available for public use.
