Wikimedia Foundation
The Wikimedia Foundation is the non-profit organization that supports Wikipedia, the other Wikimedia free knowledge websites, and its mission of free knowledge for all. We do this by keeping the Wikimedia sites fast, secure, and available to all, defending Wikipedia and our volunteer editors from legal threats, building new features and tools to make it easy to read, edit, and share knowledge from Wikimedia sites, and by supporting the communities of editors who contribute to Wikipedia and the Wikimedia sites. We also help bring new knowledge online, lower barriers to access, and make it easier for everyone to share what they know. Wikimedia Foundation has its own chapters and user groups in various different countries of the globe. GLAM Macedonia is one of the user groups or association of citizens that dedicates its resources and efforts toward achieving the goals of this global organisation.

GLAM and Partnership
This program includes projects based on cooperation with public institutions in order to identify new forms of knowledge, release copyrighted content and provide better access to free knowledge. This program is divided into three subprograms: GLAM, Partnerships, and Open Government Data.
- GLAM
The goal of the project is to establish active cooperation with GLAM institutions in Macedonia, by sending Wikipedians to a specific institution. This enables the education of GLAM employees about Wikimedia projects; educating GLAM employees to add references to articles, and creating new articles or improving existing ones because GLAM sector employees are highly educated professionals. At the same time, it is possible for these institutions to be more open to the public, to understand the need for digitization, as well as the need to share knowledge, documents, historical photos and materials with the general public.
This subprogramme includes the following projects:
-
- Native Wikipedian,
- Museum visits, etc
- Partnerships
This subprogram implies cooperation with several organizations and institutions, which opens up the possibility of partnerships that can expand the scope and effectiveness of the program. By collaborating with institutions and using their resources, the program can enrich Wikipedia articles and other Wikimedia projects. Content created or enhanced through this collaboration can enhance readers’ understanding and appreciation of cultural and historical topics. The program’s collaboration with institutions can support their own goals and missions, such as promoting cultural heritage, increasing public access to information, and fostering the educational field. By documenting and preserving exhibits and objects through photo shoots, the program contributes to the preservation of cultural heritage. Making these resources available to the Common Treasury ensures their accessibility and long-term digital preservation. Cooperation with other organizations enables the exchange of expertise and knowledge. The program can learn from the experience of partner institutions and vice versa, leading to mutual learning and improvement.
This subprogramme includes the following projects:
-
-
- QRpedia,
- Exhibitions,
- Projects with certain institutions,
- MakSport.

- Open Government Data
The Open Government Data Project is an initiative that focuses on collaboration with institutions to obtain structured data for uploading to Wikidata. By promoting open access to government data, the project contributes to transparency, accountability and the free dissemination of information. The project’s focus on open government data aligns with the principles of open knowledge sharing, encouraging institutions to make their data freely available to the public. Close collaboration with institutions enables the project to access a wide range of data sources and expand the range of information available on Wikidata. The goal of the Wikidata Structured Data Upload project is to improve the completeness and accuracy of information on the platform. Collaboration with reputable institutions can help ensure the quality and reliability of data, increasing its credibility on Wikidata.
By making government data open and available on Wikidata, the project contributes to promoting transparency in governance and public decision-making. By converting government data into structured Wikidata formats, the project makes the information more usable and accessible for a variety of applications. Over time, project efforts in collaboration with institutions and data uploads contribute to building a valuable repository of government information on Wikidata. Access to open government data empowers citizens to be better informed and engaged in public affairs, fostering a participatory democratic culture.
