The Education and Science program aims to maintain and expand cooperation with educational and scientific institutions, promoting Wikipedia as an educational resource, with the aim of involving students and academic staff in the Wikimedia movement.
This program is divided into two subprograms: Education and Science.
- Education
The educational program includes activities related to the education of minor students (primary and secondary school) and teachers, which means training and teaching students how to edit Wikipedia, use Commons and contribute to the Wikipedia movement, as well as training teachers how to use Wikimedia projects as teaching tools. Students are mostly educated in Wiki clubs in several schools in several cities in Macedonia. Each club has an appointed coordinator. The “Education” sub-programme includes the following projects:
- Conferences for teachers – four conferences for teachers during the year, with the participation of at least 65 teachers in total, who will be trained, theoretically and practically, to use Wikipedia in the classroom, as well as to edit and improve Wikipedia;
- Wiki clubs – educating students about working on Wikipedia, who could go on to edit Wikipedia;
- Editing contests for schoolchildren, students and adults;
- Wiki Camp – a three-day camp for minor students and members of Wiki Clubs. One Wiki Camp is organized for 30 to 40 active Wiki Club members and new participants, plus 12 adults: volunteers, teachers and Wikipedians;
- Faculty and Student Mentorships – engaging high school and university students to learn how to edit Wikipedia and contribute to the platform;
Wikidata Workshops – organized to expand data-oriented platforms such as Wikidata;
- Science
The scientific subprogram is aimed at creating open educational resources and creating digital libraries, which will be available for use in education through Wikimedia projects. The “Science” subprogramme includes the following projects:
- Wikiexperiments – collaboration with academic citizens and accredited individuals in institutes, faculties and universities to select a wide range of scientific experiments from different fields of natural sciences;
- WikiLectures – an innovative initiative to improve the educational content of Wikipedia. By recording video lectures delivered by experts in their respective fields, WikiLectures aim to provide comprehensive explanations to address specific issues and related topics.
